Lost and Found: Around the World

Lost and Found: There was a series of journal entries I had posted on the old blogging system. I meant to import them into wordpress but somehow the database had been corrupted. Today I stumbled onto the original text doc from one of those posts. If this was saved, there might be others.

We are cruising at 32,000 feet - Going from Gaum to Hawaii

After 16 days out of town on this tsunami relief mission, we are finally making progress getting back home. I'm actually writing this in the air to be posted later because there isn't anything else to do right now. Review time.

We left over two weeks ago to fly out on a civilian airline. it sucked and took forever. Airport after airport, then a 14 hour flight to japan. Little kids sat next to me, not letting me get any type of rest.

Politics

We were due to fly a mission into Iraq the next day. We had already had racked up 30+ flying hours, mostly during 24 hour work days, flying back and forth from Spain to the giant sandbox. But on that particular night sometime in late 2003 our minimum crew rest in Rota, Spain was extended. It gave us a chance to breathe and relax a little.

I remember the whole crew got together that night. We didn't do anything exciting but sit outside listening to other C-5 crews land and take off. I sat with my squadron chief and two fellow Loadmasters on one side of the table, our flight commander and a new lieutenant sat on the other side. We enjoyed the company of a jug of Southern Comfort and Captain Morgan. The rest of the crew had either passed out or otherwise snuck off to one of Rota's finer 'gentleman's club'

With nothing left to do, and the alcohol getting low, the subject of politics came up. I stayed quit as long as I could but eventually someone asked me my political views and how I felt about the war.

Went fishing. Caught a buzz.

I was invited out by a friend of mine Shaun to go fishing down in the Delaware bay with him and his friend rob. The spot they we're going to was actually one of the places I found while looking for a spot to fish with Aaron the week before. I had been planing on heading back there by myself because It it looked like a great spot, and then I could talk my cousin Jesse into coming down to go fishing. So this was perfect.

I met them there at around 5:30 because I had to wait for robin to get home to watch Aaron. Upon Arriving I was greeted with free bait and free beer. So far so good. They had caught a few small fish and quite a few Horseshoe Crabs. It's their spawning time and Delaware bay is the spawning capital of the world.
