Pirates!
Just finished watching Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At worlds end. Well done movie which raps up the trilogy nicely. I was highly impressed with how the film opened. While seeing bodies, upon bodies, of pirates who have been hanged, a company man reads an order to the public stating that rights of habeas corpus and all freedoms and liberties associated with it, have been suspended, all people suspected of being or aiding a pirate are to be executed immediately. We watch a group of men hang, and see long lines of people awaiting their turn to die. A young boy is brought forward and with noose around his neck, he begins to softly sing, slowly other in the line begin to sing as well, until all the people waiting to be executed are singing loudly. It was a brilliant scene and a good movie. I Recommend seeing this film. What are your thoughts on the song, scene, and movie?
Edit: Heather left a link to download a version of the song that is longer than the one on the soundtrack, please note that it is not a ‘full version’, but it seems it is the longest one available. Download the extended version of Hoist the Colours here. Credit for the Original upload goes out to Wesker/Amesome-x. Thanks!
Edit 2: A lot of people have also been asking about the extra, after credits scene. Download the PotC3 after credits scene here. Credit goes of to Zemerick, from imperiuminferi. Thanks!
Edit 3: Thanks goes out to Revan for proving this Mp3 of Elizabeth’s verse.
Edit 4: Thanks to Frankie for this Combined ‘Full’ Version. Right click and save as.

Here are the “Hoist the Colours” Lyrics.
Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the Colors high.
Heave ho,
thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.The king and his men
stole the queen from her bed
and bound her in her Bones.
The seas be ours
and by the powers
where we will we’ll roam.Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the Colors high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never shall we die. Some men have died
and some are alive
and others sail on the sea
– with the keys to the cage…
and the Devil to pay
we lay to Fiddler’s Green! The bell has been raised
from it’s watery grave…
Do you hear it’s sepulchral tone?
We are a call to all,
pay head the squall
and turn your sail toward home!Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the Colors high…
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.
THE MOVIE WAS GREAT THE BEST OF THE THREE I THINK BUT AS GOOD AS THE BEGINNING SCENE IS WITH THE BOY DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THAT THE ACTOR PLAYING THE CHILD HAS BRACES??? LOL MY SISTER POINTED IT OUT AND IT MADE ME LAUGH

I loved it and will give *my* interpretation of the lyrics:
The king and his men
stole the queen from her bed
and bound her in her bones.
The seas be ours
and by the powers
where we will, we’ll roam.
Yo ho, all together
hoist the colours high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars
never shall we die.
Some have died
and some are alive
and others sail on the sea
– with the keys to the cage…
and the Devil to pay
we lay to Fiddler’s Green!
Yo ho, all together
hoist the colours high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars
never shall we die.
The bell has been raised
from its watery grave.
Hear it’s sepulchral tone
A call to all,
pay head the squall
and turn your sail to home!
Yo ho, all together
hoist the colours high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars
never say we die.

Here is a Challange!
I’m not looking for the audio file but rather the Sheet music.
I’m a Violin player (so piano version will do) and While I have the tune worked out and I know it’s a series of c’s and f’s with flat and sharp variations (one or two g’s and e’s) I need the exact tempo to work out my bowing.
I’ve been up and down the internet to find it, but with little luck.
thanks for any help
I am so glad to have finally found the full lyrics to this song. I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to this song on the soundtrack because it’s so moving and powerful. And thanks Adam for the explaination/breakdown — if only we knew just how much knowledge this song gave us at the beginning of the movie. I had gone to see it twice already and would love to go see it again!
This is not so much in regards to the film, though it is spectacular, but more in response to the two individuals stating that pirates were raping, murdering feinds. This is simply not the whole truth. Yes, there were evil individuals involved in piracy, but there is evil in every group of people. But not all pirates were bad. Pirates came from different walks of life, and came into that life for different reasons, and not all pirates were men; there were female pirates as well. Not all pirates were uneducated; some had been military men, and even back then a military career required educated. Some pirates had been merchants, who were given “Letters of Marque” (yes, they’re real), which granted them legal right, permission from the Monarch, to prey upon the merchants of enemy nations. Often when their Letters of Marque were revoked, they turned to piracy because they did not wish to go back to their former lives. Not all pirates were killers, and in some cases, they actually did flee from confrontation.
To say that “all pirates were raping murderers” makes as much sense (and is as accurate) as saying “all Old West lawmen were good, honest men”, or “all American Indians are savage heathens”. Research takes little effort, and the education gained is priceless.
the link for the two parts put together doesn’t work on my computer:( Could someone please email it to me?

I’ve noticed that the “Yo, Ho…” chorus after the “The King…” verse is different:
Yo, ho, all hands,
hoist the Colors high.
Heave ho,
thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.
The link for the song does in fact work, just the ending is not added on and you have to add it.
ok, i’d just like to say that just because Eliabeth is there waiting for Will, it doesnt mean hes not the captain anymore. i dont really know how to explain it, but ill try. so here it goes: Calypso made Davy Jones captain of the Flying Duchman. his job was to ferry the souls of people who lost their lives at sea to the other side. Calypso promised that if he did that for 10 years, they would be together. he did for the first 10 years, but the one day he had on land Calypso was not there so he got all mad and never helped another soul, thats why he’s all tentically (however you spell that). like i said, just because Elizabeth is waiting for Will, doesn’t mean that he’s not the captain. the Flying Duchman must always have a captain.
ok, im pretty sure thats how it goes
but anyways, Hoist the Colours is an AMAZING song. it gives me the chills everytime i listen to it. it sets up the movie if you listen to the lyrics close enough (thanks to adam). its so sad and very powerful. that whole soundtrack gives me chills. especially At Wit’s End.
and if anyone can give me the whole version of the song, PLEASE email me. bertha108@aim.com
i wanna be a pirate

I LOVE CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW SO MUCH WOOT. LOVE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN. I hope there’s a 4th movie though they say this might be the last :/ sigh. Thanks for sharing Hoist the Colors
I really liked the whole movie, and yes, like everyone I like the first part very much.
I might have discovered something about that song.
“The king and his men
stole the queen from her bed
and bound her in her Bones.
The seas be ours
and by the powers
where we will we’ll roam.”
They might mean Calypso/Tia Dalma with this. Davy Jones (the king of the sea) and his men made Calypso come here. By Davy Jones she got into that human form, with bones and stuff like that. Calypso can rule the sea, she can make maelstroms.
oh yea! i forgot Johnny Depp’s birthday is on Saturday! thanks for reminding me Amber. i guess we’re both just that obsessed
my mom was born on June 1, 1963, so i like to rub it in that Johnny Depp is eight days younger than her. aren’t I nice
Your Are SO HOOOOOOOOT AND FISTY I LOOOOOOOVE YOU SO MUCH AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU OR HAVE FUUNNNN WITH YOUR SEXY BODYS
About the coins Beckett has. It was a miss interpretation on his part. Spanish Dollars, the coins, were actually called ‘Pieces of Eight’. Beckett thought the that 9 pieces of eight meant actual coins and not 9 pieces of whatever they had lying around. Ergo Beckett collected Pieces of Eight that he found on pirates.
hey,
